-FOOD: AN IDENTITY OF THE SELF-

January 2017 - February 2017

ARTIST STATEMENT

People are constantly on the search for what defines themselves. To me, the food that I eat is one of the most prominent elements in representing myself. In this exhibition, the food that I portray through my illustrations is a product of two cultures meshing together, reflecting my identity as a Japanese-American.

To me, beauty is found in the ordinary. There are so many elements we take for granted within our daily lives, overlooking their significance because we classify them as mundane and unimportant. Through this show, I want each and every one of you to experience feelings of nostalgia, connecting the element of food with your own culture and to grow an appreciation to what we eat.
